People in Japan are required to join either the National Health Insurance
Program or the Workers’ Health Insurance Program.
Belonging to the Workers’ Health Insurance Program means that employees are insured
through their employers. Foreign residents who plan to stay in Japan for over a year are required to join the National Health Insurance Program.
As you join the program, you will receive a National Health Insurance Certificate
and must pay a premium.
When you submit your National Health Insurance Certificate to a medical facility
for treatment, you only need to pay 30% of the medical costs(those applicable).
When an insured person gives birth or dies or when high nursing care
costs are incurred, specified amounts of benefits are provided. For more information,
please contact to the Health Insurance and Pension Division of your city.

How much will you need to pay?
