Laser Iridotomy

Laser Iridotomy (LI) is a surgical procedure of making a hole in the iris to improve the flow of aqueous humor, and is the main treatment of angle closure glaucoma.

In angle closure glaucoma, the flow of aqueous humor gets slower because the space between the iris and the lens is narrow. As a result, the pressure of the aqueous humor pushes the iris forward (toward the cornea), blocking the corner angle.

It leads the increase of intraocular pressure. As people age, the flow of aqueous humor becomes even more difficult because the lens becomes larger.

Laser iridotomy is a procedure in which the iris is punctured with a laser to prevent blockage or, in the event of an attack, to release the blockage and reduce intraocular pressure.

Applicable diseases

Target diseases for laser therapy include

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy (diabetic retinopathy) is divided into three stages of progression based on the condition of the retina and other factors.
