High-Cost Medical Expense Benefit
(KOGAKU RYOYOHI SEIDO)

High-Cost Medical Expense Benefit (KOGAKU RYOYOHI SEIDO) is a system that caps your monthly medical care payment. You can receive reimbursment for the cost exceeded your monthly limit, when your medical care cost would exceed the maximam copayment amount.
You need to apply through your health insurance provider to receive reinbursment.

How to Apply.

There are two ways to apply for high-cost medical expense benefits.

1. Apply Afterwards (receive high-cost medical expense benefits)

Pay the fee on your own at the health institution first, and then apply for high-cost expense benefits to your health insurance provider to receive the refund afterwards.

2. Apply in advance ( Apply for "Eligibility Certificate for Ceiling-Amount Application")

Please obtain an “Eligibility Certificate for Ceiling-Amount Application” by applying through your health insurance provider in advance. Present the certificate at the reception desk, and your monthly payment will be no more than a specified amount. You can apply for the certificate even when you are unsure whether your medical fee will exceed the limit of patient liability.

The application forms and procedures are different between individuals, depending on the insurance provider.

Please contact your insurance provider first.
